General

  • Why should I choose the SetupVPN?
    SetupVPN is a secure, safe VPN service. You can use it to unblock sites, ensure your online privacy when using public Wi-Fi, prevent any website from tracking your data and hide your location, it also gives you a static IP and a faster access to content. You can also use it to go around governmental restrictions.
  • Is SetupVPN free to use?
    At SetupVPN, we offer free accounts, but we also have a premium account for customers that want more robust features.
  • Will the SetupVPN use my bandwidth or resources?
    No, it does not. Although many services do this, we do not because it is not safe to allow a service access your IP address as you will be held responsible for whatever the service does while using your IP address. Also, sharing your resources with a service creates a situation where you are not in full control of what happens to your IP. We have designed SetupVPN to avoid such dangerous scenarios.
  • Which platforms do you currently support?
    While we are constantly adding new platforms for our software, we currently have our app on the mobile platforms and as an extension for browsers. We however do not support televisions and routers.
  • What is the difference between Tor Browser and SetupVPN?
    The Tor browser was originally created to let you surf anonymously, but SetupVPN offers much more benefits. You do not have to switch to a new browser to use it as it will work great with your browser and let you access what you need from whatever country you want. Also, the Tor is a black-box and not very safe for most users. Even if there are source codes, we are not sure anyone audits them.
  • Why is the SetupVPN safer to use and faster than Tor?
    While the Tor network is banned in many countries, SetupVPN works in virtually every country, no matter where you are in the world. It is also safe to use and user-friendly.
  • Do I need to configure my system to use SetupVPN?
    No, you do not. All you need to use the software is just a valid SetupVPN account.
  • To what am I agreeing when I use SetupVPN ?
    You agree to comply with all applicable laws and regulations in connection with your use of this service. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your security credentials, and activation codes. Never share you credentials with other people, as sharing credentials with others makes you liable for the things they do while using your account.
  • Can I change servers often?
    You may change servers as much as you want. There are no limits.
  • Does the SetupVPN block some ports?
    Yes. We restrict access to some ports to protect you from attacks. We block ports like 25,465, which are commonly used by spammers. The list of blocked ports may change from time to time as we are always adapting our services to protect you and keep your data safe.
  • Does SetupVPN block the SMTP port?
    Yes. We do this to prevent and cut down spamming.
  • Do you have an affiliate program at SetupVPN?
    No. At the moment, we do not have an affiliate program.

  • How do I use SetupVPN?
    In order to use the benefits, we have detailed that in the previous question. All you need is the SetupVPN extension on your computer or the app on your mobile phone.
  • Does the SetupVPN protect me?
    Sure, we do. SetupVPN filters viruses from your browsing and shields you from malware that may be on the websites that you visit. We also encrypt your communications from end-to-end so that all you do online is which means everything you do online is protected, even when you are using public Wi-Fi. We take care to provide is a higher level of protection than what your Internet provider can offer. We also do not let advertising networks keep a tab on you and your habits.
  • Can I use a free account for my business?
    Sure, you can use it for any business purposes. Even if you own an internet café, you can use the free version of SetupVPN.
  • Can I use SetupVPN to do a speed test?
    You definitely can. But, please note the speed will depend on the location of your proxy/server. For instance, almost every country has a good connection to the United States, but only a few have a fast connection to China. You need to find which servers work the fastest for you. Speed is also determinant on other things like your ISP, your uplink, a router connection, or other factors. Also, speed tests can take a ton of time, so we recommend that you use a proxy country that is close to your location.
  • Does the SetupVPN improve my browsing speed?
    Generally, all VPN services make your connection slow. When you enable a VPN, more routers come between you and target website, and that affects your connection speed.
  • Can I combine SetupVPN with other VPN providers?
    Theoretically, you can. However, it is not necessary and would slow your connection down.
  • Can I use SetupVPN on a virtual machine?
    Yes, you can. SetupVPN extension can run on any supported platform.
  • How will I know which server in the SetupVPN network is the fastest?
    Speed is quite relative, depending on your location, the location of your VPN, the routers in between, and many other factors. For most users, American servers might be the fastest.
  • Does SetupVPN extension harm my computer if I don’t use it?
    No, it does not. When it is not in use, the SetupVPN extension does not communicate with your computer in any way.
  • The server I chose preferred server does not unblock my target site, what can I do?
    We recommend you use another VPN location; as other countries might unblock your target site.
  • May I analyze or decompile your software?
    You may analyze our code, but you are not allowed to modify it or reuse it. Please see our Terms and Conditions.
  • Why is the SetupVPN faster than other VPN providers?
    SetupVPN does not compromise on your security and privacy, and is specially designed for speed.
  • Do you have a download/upload limit (quota)?
    For our Free accounts, we have a daily quota that you cannot go over. For Premium accounts, there is absolutely no limit.
  • Where are the SetupVPN servers located?
    Server locations change every day, but SetupVPN has servers in each of the countries listed. We also add new servers every week.
  • Can I connect from multiple browsers and computers at same time?
    Yes, you can. But we do not recommend sharing your credentials with other people. They might visit illegal sites and you could be held responsible for that.
  • Where can I find your terms and conditions for SetupVPN? And if SetupVPN changes it, will I be notified?
    Our Terms and Conditions / End User License Agreement can be found here. Yes, if you have a valid account you will be notified about changes via email.

Abuse

  • What is a blacklisted website? Why will a website get blacklisted?
    SetupVPN blacklists some websites that help protect you as our valuable client. Many of these websites are illegal in or are treated as illegal by many countries. Also, the list of blacklisted websites changes often.
  • Does SetupVPN save all my proxy logs?
    Yes. We save logs for a particular amount of time period of time to prevent any abuse of our network. We also have a stringent illegal tracking policy.
  • Does SetupVPN work with legal authorities?
    Yes, we do. Please contact us at to open a support ticket regarding any issue. Also, include in your mail, the date, time, time zone, target website, and logs. If you are an investigator, please send us an email with an official letterhead and from the email address you use at work.
  • Is it faster to get a response from an SetupVPN abuse report than contacting our uplinks?
    If you reach out through uplinks, this might take some time. The faster way to reach us is by contacting us directly. We promise to answer quickly, especially for cases of abuse.
  • Can I participate in illegal forums online?
    No, please do not. We do not recommend this because we do not want our clients involved in activities that are illegal.
  • Do you allow users to send emails through the VPN?
    We do not recommend that you send emails via the VPN. We are currently blocking this action to prevent our IP address from being blocked.
  • What activities are considered illegal?
    In every country, there is a list of illegal activities and things that may constitute threats. At SetupVPN, we particularly follow the laws and customs of the United States and Germany.
  • What happens if I visit illegal websites or participate in illegal forums?
    There are millions of illegal websites on the web and there is no way to know that you have visited an illegal website. We will only take strict action when a legal authority contacts us and requests logs about your website visits. Normally, you should not worry about this much because anyone can mistake visit an illegal. What is important is that you do not interact or participate in the website activities. We do not want you to get into trouble.
  • Can I use SetupVPN for any illegal activities and be sure I won’t get caught?
    No. This is because we want to protect 99% of our clients from the 1% of illegal intentioned users. This is in the interest of the 99%. We will strictly track abusers, spammers and people with any form of illegal intentions.
  • How can I submit an abuse report to you?
    Please send us an email to , and be sure to include sufficient evidence and logs as well as the correct date, time, time zone, and target websites. The more details you provide, the better we can help. Please follow up with us if you do not hear back within 36 hours.

  • What is the fastest way to receive support?
    The fastest way to reach us is by creating a support ticket. All you have to do is sign into your valid SetupVPN account and click on the “Contact Support” button at bottom of the bar. We typically respond between 6 and 24 hours from the submission of your ticket.
  • How do I submit feedback about a bug?
    The best way to do is by creating a ticket. We love to get feedback from our users and will try to solve and respond to you as soon as possible. Please include as many details as possible too.
  • How do I know that my support request was received and processed?
    When you submit a support ticket or send an email, you will receive a confirmation email.
  • How long should I expect to wait to get a response from you?
    Typically, we respond to all requests between 6 and 24 hours from when you submit it. You will get an email saying your support request has been received.
  • Do you offer phone support?
    Currently, we do not.

Chrome Browser

  • Why can’t I see the SetupVPN icon?
    The SetupVPN extension might be uninstalled or just disabled. Type chrome://extensions/ into your browser’s address bar and search for the SetupVPN add-on. If it does not appear, simply reinstall it. If it appears in the list, enable the icon and it should work great.
  • Why does the SetupVPN icon look gray?
    If your icon looks gray, it means you are not currently connected to SetupVPN. The SetupVPN extension can be standby mode until you activate it. To activate the SetupVPN VPN network, left-click on the gray icon, log in (if required), and select one of the VPN servers.

Account

  • Do you share my information with third parties?
    Only SetupVPN is able to see your data and we do not share or sell your information. Please refer to our Terms and Privacy-Policy for more information.
  • What do you do with my personal information?
    SetupVPN only uses your use personal information for service purposes. It is a way to reach you and to be able to know you by name. It is used for SetupVPN promotions. You can unsubscribe from our list at any time you want.
  • Can I change my email address?
    Once you validate your account with one email, you cannot switch it to another.
  • Can I share my account information with another person?
    You can do that, but you probably should not. There is a high possibility that you could be held responsible for the people’s actions. Your account equals your identity and in the case of any abuse or legal issues, you could be implicated. Also, we have a free account to use SetupVPN, so there is no reason to share your account details with another person.
  • Can I share my account across different computers?
    If these computers are yours, that works. However, we recommend that every person has his or her own SetupVPN account in order to prevent abuse.
  • May I close my account?
    Yes, you can do this from the SetupVPN application. We will be sad to see you go, but we will subsequently delete your account.
  • My account is banned. What can I do?
    We will only ban your account when we have a strong evidence of abuse or illegal activity from your account. We do not release banned accounts.
  • Why do you need to verify my email address?
    In order, we verify email addresses to have a reliable way to contact you.
  • What happens when I don’t use my account regularly?
    We periodically delete dormant Free accounts. If you do not use your account within 180 days, we may close your account due for inactivity. If this happens, you can sign up for new account. However, we do not delete Premium accounts due to inactivity.
  • Will closing my account wipe my logs?
    Most of them yes, we keep for a certain period of time, just in case we receive an abuse report. After this period, we will wipe your logs.

Premium Account

  • How do I pay for my Premium account?
    We accept different methods of payment. Most of our clients pay via PayPal, but you can also use AliPay, Bitcoin, and others. Purchases can be made directly from our application. You get access to the Premium account as soon your payment goes through.
  • Can I transfer my Premium account to another email address?
    Currently, we do not support email address changes.
  • How do I cancel my account?
    We do not have subscription-based accounts, so this means your Premium account will be cancelled automatically when your payment expires and you will be downgraded to a Free one.
  • Do you store my payment information?
    No, we do not. Our customer payments are handled by trusted, secure, third-party payment processors, such as PayPal, Stripe, and Paymentwall.
  • Can I share my Premium account with someone?
    We do not recommend this at all. Please do not share your account information. By doing that, you are left with no control over other people’s online behavior.
  • Do I get a refund if the speed is slow?
    No. We recommend that you change servers to achieve a faster speed instead.

Privacy

  • Can you ensure my privacy is protected?
    We restrict access to a lot of illegal networks and botnets, and encrypt your connection from your browser to target with end-to-end encryption techniques.
  • Does SetupVPN use any external software over which it does not have control over?
    No. All you need to use the service is our extension.
